We believe that everyone is worthy of being heard and has stories worth sharing.

Our programs provide the opportunities, skills, and spaces they need to do that. We offer most of our services for free, so we can't help others without your support.

Why Give to the NWC?

Our Business Model is Broken

We make a point of paying the writers and poets who teach in our programs to help retain them right here in our community. We also make a point of not charging participants for most of our programming or events, because it imposes a barrier that is contrary to our mission of community-building. This means we literally cannot do what we do without donations, sponsorships, and grants from people such as you.

We Teach by Listening

We give people the space, permission, and skills they need to find their own voices and share their stories. One of our goals is fostering self-empowerment, so we lend an ear where others might lend a hand.

We Don’t Have a Building

We work within the community, partnering with other organizations and groups to meet our program participants where they are, on their terms. That means better service for our program participants and more of your support going directly into the pockets of our Teaching Artists.

Diversity and Inclusiveness Are Not Our Ultimate Goals

They are starting points we work from to foster more meaningful outcomes such as fairness, equity, and justice.

It’s Tax-Deductible

The NWC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, so all donations to our programs or unrestricted funds are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.
