Our Services

Putting Creativity in the Hands of the People
Our mission is to make poetry relevant and accessible to as many people as we can. To do this we teach hands-on courses whenever possible and work on a sliding scale to accommodate any budget. We also use donor contributions to provide as much as we can for free.  Here are a few of our offerings:

  • In-School Creative Writing Workshops
Our writers and poets are eager to visit your school or organization to conduct highly-interactive writing workshops on any literary topic.  Have us over for just an hour, or schedule us for regular weekly stops. We’re flexible and excited to help students of any level appreciate the literary arts.
  • Literary Events
Want to host a reading? A contest? A poetry slam? We’ve been setting up literary events for more than a decade, including the Omaha Healing Arts Center Slam and the Great Plains Poetry Pile-Up.
  • Publications
Nothing gets students involved like hands-on learning, positive feedback, and the chance to let their talents shine. We let students showcase their creativity by helping them create a literary journal for their school. We walk them through the entire process step-by-step, and the end result is a high-quality, professionally-edited, student-produced publication they can take pride in.

The opportunity to have a professional poet come to my classroom and mentor several high school students was unforgettable for the individual students as well as the school community.  The visiting poet from the Nebraska Writers Collective created and implemented constructivist, authentic, and individualized learning experiences for multiple students at the Integrated Learning Program, an alternative OPS school for students with Behavioral and Learning Disabilities.  Within a six week period, these struggling readers and hesitant writers transformed into eloquent, passionate poets and storytellers.  The final product of this process was a small magazine, a treasured emblem of success as well as permanent proof of the potential that exists within these often-overlooked youth. -Rebecca Herskovitz, Special Education Teacher, OPS
