We are listening. We are acting.

The Nebraska Writers Collective believes, unequivocally, that Black Lives Matter

We remember George Floyd, we remember Breonna Taylor, we remember Ahmaud Arbery, we remember Tony McDade, and we remember Omahan James Scurlock. We condemn the violence perpetrated by people in power and perpetuated by systems that uphold racism.

We will continue to give young people a platform to be heard, to amplify diverse voices, and increase understanding between people from different communities. We will work with organizations that share these values and commit their missions toward equity and justice in the Midwest. We are committed to following BIPOC community members and leaders.

If you are able, we encourage you to donate resources to the following groups working directly with BIPOC, both locally and nationally:

James Scurlock’s family

ACLU Nebraska

The Nebraska Left Coalition

George Floyd’s family

Women For Political Change

Division of Indian Work

National Bail Fund Network

The Equal Justice Initiative

We have always believed in the power of writing, and urge you to read the texts from Ibram X. Kendi’s “An Antiracist Reading List.” Consider making this purchase through a black-owned business or bookstore, like Omaha’s Aframerican Bookstore. And please support local, black-owned restaurants.
