Communications Director

Nebraska Writers Collective — Omaha, NE

$40,000/year minimum with potential for higher starting salary dependent upon experience
 

Communications Director Job Summary

The Nebraska Writers Collective, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, seeks a highly motivated Communications Director to oversee internal and external communication for our organization. The ideal candidate will be both imaginative and collaborative, someone who is capable of dreaming up innovative ways to reach wider audiences and is also willing to work closely with the Development Director on various projects. Exceptional candidates will have experience with design, print, video, photography, managing social media pages and campaigns, and storytelling. Strong written and verbal communication skills required. Passion for the arts as an educational tool and a belief in the possibility of bettering local communities through the humanities are a must. 
 

Communications Director Responsibilities and Duties

  • Work with Development Director to draft and implement an annual communications plan
  • Manage Communications Committee
  • Build and maintain outreach lists
  • Manage social media pages for Nebraska Writers Collective and Louder Than a Bomb: Great Plains
  • Update and maintain digital content for Nebraska Writers Collective and Louder Than a Bomb: Great Plains websites
  • Create and maintain a podcast for the Nebraska Writers Collective and/or Louder Than a Bomb: Great Plains
  • Produce digital content for newsletters
  • Create outreach content for new donors and sponsors
  • Manage media relations, maintain media contact database and relationships, and maximize media opportunities
  • Assist Development Director with grant applications as needed

The above statements are not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties required of the Communications Director. With a small staff in the nonprofit sector, staff members should be prepared to work with one another and handle additional duties as they come up.
 

Communications Director Qualifications and Skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively across diverse audiences
  • Experience with print, video, photography, social media, website maintenance
  • Self-starter
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Effective time management; ability to manage multiple deadlines at once
  • Commitment to social justice, equity, and fairness
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communication, English, Journalism, Photography, Graphic Design, or other relevant field preferred but not required
