A Note to Potential Donors
What if Pandora opened the box and only good things poured out? That’s what we see every time we open someone’s mind to poetry, and you can be a part of it.

Don’t buy into the stereotype that poetry excites neither the iPod generation nor today’s adults. Our members disprove that myth every time they walk onto a stage and wow an audience or enter a classroom and wake up students to their creative potential. They are dynamic performers. Their poetry is profound, engaging, and beautiful. But above all, our members and their works are accessible. The NWC firmly believes that accessibility was the key to poetry’s popularity in the past and remains the best bet for maintaining poetry’s relevance today.

Your contribution goes entirely towards education. It lets our members help local students that otherwise wouldn’t have access to this kind of creative teaching. It gets our poets and writers to schools and organizations they otherwise wouldn’t have the means to visit. It pays for the materials people need to get in touch with their muse. Our members live to teach, but we can’t put them where they need to be without your generous support.

The NWC is a 501(c)(3) organization, so your donation is fully tax-deductible. More importantly, your contribution to showing people how to better appreciate the literary arts and channel their own creativity is a gift of sustenance they get to open every day for the rest of their lives.

Donations of $100 and more get a listing on the websites here at newriters.org and at Louder Than a Bomb: Omaha.

The NWC sends teams of poets into schools multiple times over a semester to build a relationship with students as they work toward a larger project (a chapbook, a reading, a team competing in Louder Than a Bomb: Omaha). Here is what a donation can provide the community:

  • $50 pays for the printing of a class chapbook
  • $75 pays for one poet’s visit to a high school or middle school classroom
  • $150 pays for a 2-poet team visiting a classroom
  • $900 provides a full semester’s visits to a school
  • $1000 provides sponsorship for the coaching and expenses of a single team at Louder Than a Bomb: Omaha
