Random Acts of Poetry is the NWC’s annual programming showcase, and this year we invite you to KANEKO (1111 Jones St. in Omaha) on November 19th from 2-3:30 PM to see what we’ve been up to. Enjoy complimentary hot drinks, snacks, and other goodies while our program participants perform and our directors discuss new and upcoming programming.
High school students participating in the eight-month-long Louder Than a Bomb: Great Plains youth poetry festival will perform individual and group pieces that they are preparing for a month-long tournament in April 2017. This is our largest program, now it its sixth consecutive season of growth serving thousands of students throughout all of Nebraska and Council Bluffs, Iowa. It also provides paying work opportunities for more than forty accomplished poets in the communities we serve.
Alumni from the Seven Doctors Project will read from works they developed during their time in this nine week group writing workshop. It is designed to accommodate the schedules of busy professionals so they can make the time to fully engage in creative self-expression.
Spark Wheel Press, the NWC’s publishing arm, will have a display of books it has published, discuss current works in progress, and feature readings from published works.
Executive Director Matt Mason and NWC program directors will also discuss work being done in our new Writers’ Block program that offers free writing workshops for prison inmates throughout Nebraska, along with other exciting new programs in development with new partners in our community.
The event is free and open to the public, but we suggest a donation of $25 to support all of the programs you will see that cannot exist without help from our generous donors.
We are grateful to KANEKO for providing this lovely space and hope to see you there!
